Sammamish History
|
Sammamish was incorporated in August of 1999. This movement followed an earlier attempt to incorporate as part of nearby Issaquah in 1991. Resting on the Sammamish Pleateu, the word Sammamish comes from two Native American words - "samena" which means hunter, and "mish" which means people. This area was historically an unincorporated portion of King, County. The primary ways of life were rooted in timber and agriculture. As time progressed, Sammamish has become one of the blooming residential areas in the region, but without losing the natural accents like lakes, wetlands, parks, and green spaces.
